Sycamore Maple -Mantle - 1803-80-1-SLBMAN
Sycamore Maple
$751.88
Sycamore Maple Mantel. Pinhole borer tunnels present throughout the wood. The borer is no longer active but has left black tunnels and holes. Pinhole attack wet logs and recently felled trees, creating tunnels and lacing a yeast and a fungus they actively cultivate as food for their offspring. The tunnels and holes are Pinhole gardens. Once the wood is milled and the timber dries, the beetles leave as the yeast or fungi can’t grow in the dry wood. This wood no longer has beetles, grubs nor active yeast nor fungi. The fungi have caused the black colouring of the tunnels and holes. The wood is still intact and sound, just peppered by tiny black holes. Suitable for a bench seat, side bench, side table or Mantel. Could be resawn into two mirror matched halves for a mirror matched top. Can be kiln conditioned on request.
